Project: Five innovations for the front door

1) Who needs a door? Why not have a electric or plasma barrier that won’t let outsiders in, but recognizes your biometrics to let you pass.
2) A button that extends a little hand from the doorframe, for those times when my hands are full of groceries, and I don’t want to put the bags down on the dirty floor. Hang them on this retractable hook instead.
3) A doorbell that captures the fingerprint of anyone that rings it. Typically, burglars will ring the doorbell before breaking in. This would capture their fingerprint.
4) Automated doorman. A door that recognizes if I’m receiving a delivery, opens a hatch on the side to take it, and signs for the parcel. It takes a picture of the delivery person in the event of shenanigans. Can also receive take out in case I can’t come to the door.
5) A smart door that will remind you before work to take your keys, or an umbrella, or whatever else it detects that you may need or forgot.

  1. 1. Doormat that detects wet or dirty shoes and cleans them for you before you walk into the house. It can also detect wet clothing and turns on a speed dryer.
    2. Built-in slot for your umbrella dries and stores your umbrella so you don’t have to leave out to dry or bring a soaking into the house.
    3. Modular door can automatically detect if you’re carrying any large items (couch, fridge, etc) and widens itself and adjusts height to accommodate more easily, eliminating the awkward and often painful process of trying to squeeze large objects through small door frames.
    4. Facial recognition with a user managed blacklist -it takes a picture of everyone that’s comes up to the door. if solicitors show up or someone you don’t want to speak to you, you can add them to the blacklist and have an automated message play for them to get lost, disable the doorbell so they can’t bother you or wake you up, or notify the police if they have malicious intent.
    5. Using RFID the door detects when you walk in (or out) and turns on the lights, AC / Heat / Fireplace, music, starts a bath or shower, or whatever else your personal settings are for optimal comfort. Mine would open a beer and pour it.
